Non-woven laid scrims for Automotive Headliners

Non-woven Laid scrims Introduction

This product is a Laid Scrim (glass, polyester, or hybrid), a cost-effective, open-mesh reinforcement fabric engineered for automotive headliners — the non-woven / GMT / PP-backed panel that forms the cabin roof substrate, carrying overhead consoles, grab handles, sunshades, and NVH damping layers. It is manufactured by chemically bonding continuous filament yarns (Glass, Polyester, Carbon, Cotton, Flax, Jute, Viscose, Kevlar, Nomex, etc.) into a flat-laid open mesh (square or tri-directional), then laminated into or between the non-woven / GMT / PP stack that forms the headliner substrate. Thanks to lightweight, high strength, low shrinkage/low elongation, and corrosion resistance, the scrim upgrades a limp or brittle substrate into a dimensionally stable, bend-resistant composite that survives press-forming, trimming, and in-car vibration/thermal cycles (-40 °C to >100 °C adjacent to roof/sunroof zone).

Non-woven laid scrims Characteristics

Wheel-Arch Grade Property Profile: Dimensional stability, tensile strength, alkali resistance, tear resistance, fire resistance, anti-microbial properties, water resistance — the glass version survives stone-chip impact, road-salt corrosion, and brake-zone heat cycles; polyester version adds heat sealability and softer hand for trim-side forming; carbon/Kevlar options provide ultra-high specific stiffness for lightweight structural liners.

High Strength & Light Weight: Available in a range of regular mesh sizes and grammages covering the platform’s common specifications (from fine to coarse grids, with regular supply grams 6.5g / 8g / 13g / 15.5g etc.), delivering high tensile and tear resistance at minimal added weight — critical for wheel-arch liners where mass adds unsprung/sprung weight. Fully bondable with non-woven, GMT, PP, and resin systems common to automotive interior/exterior pressing lines; each roll length up to 50,000 m.

Long Rolls for Automotive Non-Woven / GMT Lines: Roll width 200–2,500 mm; roll length up to 50,000 m. Fewer splices per shift on high-speed laminating, needle-punch, calender, and trimming lines feeding wheel-arch, rear-shelf, headliner, and door-lining mills.

Non-woven laid scrims Application

Primary Use: Reinforcement for Automotive Headliners

The core application of this automotive-grade laid scrim is as the hidden tensile grid laminated into or between the non-woven / GMT / PP stack that forms the headliner substrate — and by extension the same scrim platform also serves rear shelves, door-linings, seat-back trims, outer wheel-arch liners, undershields, engine casing / sound-deadening, foams punched parts within the same Automotive category. It is laminated into the host stack to:

Add Sag & Fastener-Zone Resistance Without Bulking

Headliners see point loads (grab handles, sunshades, console screws) and long-term gravity sag. The scrim adds multi-directional tensile and tear resistance at very low GSM, reinforcing the sandwich without thickening the panel or adding molded-in stress risers around cutouts and boss areas.

Maintain Dimensional Stability Through Press & Cabin Cycles

The scrim’s low elongation keeps the headliner flat through press-forming, trimming, and cabin thermal cycles (-40 °C to >100 °C near roof/sunroof zone, NVH vibration), preserving gap lines against the roof bow and trim surround.

Enable Lightweighting & NVH Goals

With glass, carbon, or hybrid scrim options, the same non-woven/GMT stack can be down-gauged while holding strength — supporting OEM lightweighting and NVH damping strategies for headliner and interior-trim programs.
