Non-woven laid scrims laminated for sails for reinforcement solutions

Non-woven laid scrims Introduction

This product is a Laid Scrim (glass, polyester, carbon, or hybrid), a cost-effective, open-mesh reinforcement fabric engineered for sail laminates and broader outdoor-sports composites — covering the “Sports” category’s sail laminates, table tennis rackets, kiteboards, and the sandwich technology of skis and snowboards. It is manufactured by chemically bonding continuous filament yarns (Glass, Polyester, Carbon, Cotton, Flax, Jute, Viscose, Kevlar, Nomex, etc.) into a flat-laid open mesh (square or tri-directional), then laminated into the skin stack (foil / non-woven / composite layer) as the hidden tensile grid. Thanks to lightweight, high strength, low shrinkage/low elongation, and corrosion resistance, the scrim offers measurable value versus conventional reinforcement concepts and bonds readily with many material systems common to sail and sports-equipment laminating lines.

Non-woven laid scrims Characteristics

Non-woven laid scrims Application

Primary Use: Reinforcement for Sail Laminates & Outdoor-Sports Composites

The core application of this laminated laid scrim is as the hidden tensile grid laminated into the skin stack of sail laminates (the “Sports → Sail laminates” entry on the site), and by extension the same platform also serves table tennis rackets, kiteboards, and the sandwich technology of skis and snowboards under the same Sports category. It is sandwiched into the composite stack to:

Prevent Foil/Skin Tear Under Flutter & Batten Load

Sail skins (often foil + non-woven or film stacks) see constant flutter, batten bend, and gust shear. The scrim’s multi-directional tensile arrests tear initiation at seams, corners, and clew/tack zones, extending sail life without adding sail weight.

Stabilize Sandwich Cores in Boards & Rackets

In kiteboards, skis/snowboards, and table tennis rackets where thin sandwich builds are the norm, the scrim keeps the foil–composite face flat through flex cycles and impact loading, while adding negligible weight to the final gear.

Enable High-Efficiency Laminating

50,000 m roll length feeds high-speed laminating and sandwich lines with fewer splice stops — higher yield per shift, more consistent batch appearance on finished composite sheets.

Due to lightweight, high strength, low shrinkage/elongation, corrosion preventive, laid scrims offers tremendous value compared to conventional material concepts. And it’s easily to laminate with many kinds of materials, this makes it has an extensive fields of applications.
